"As small businesses struggle, a nursing-uniform company hits its stride"
I pitched this story to the Washington Post about Great Dane, owner of Margie's Uniforms in East Point, GA. Margie's Uniform boutique is the only black owned uniform store in Atlanta (and Georgia as a whole) selling professional workwear for nurses (scrubs, hazmat suits ,face shields etc). They have been in business for 25 years in the metro Atlanta area.
The owner is" Great Dane" who took over the business after his mom (Margie) retired 5 years ago! Margie was a phlebotomist for 27 years at Crawford Long hospital in Atlanta,GA. She began with just providing her department with uniforms, and within the next year, she left her job and started her own business supplying uniforms to the greater Atlanta area and Margie'sUniform boutique was born.
Great Dane was a truck driver at the time of his mother's retirement, but decided to take over the business to keep the legacy of Margie's Uniforms in the family name.
Since the pandemic, Great Dane has made himself available to nurses and health care professionals 24/7 with their uniform needs (some workers may have a travel assignment with only 24 hours notice and need a uniform in the middle of the night). They are also conveniently located directly across the street from the main hospital in Southside Atlanta (WellStar Atlanta Medical Center).
